Tell us about yourself?
I am Gayathri Pillai & I am pursuing my graduation in Financial Markets from S k Somaiya College. I took BFM because I always had the eagerness to learn about the new things & the other aspects in financial market & Further I am planning to go for post graduation as well as doing CFA.
How does it feel to be a Topper of the college in TY Sem V exams?
It really feels like being in the top of the world. It also motivates me a lot to work hard even more & maintain that position.
Whom will you credit your success to?
My Parents for their immense support & encouragement, my teachers for their excellent guidance & motivation without whom this wouldn’t have been possible & offcourse all my friends for supporting me.
Did you start preparing from the first day of your TY Sem V?
No, I started after a few months of starting of sem V.
How did you study for Sem V?
I used to attend all the lectures & I would say that’s the biggest thing which really helped me a lot & I would also suggest that since its your university exams plss don’t stick to one text book, you really need to refer atleast 2 textbook for all the subjects & yes refer last 5 years question papers & if possible do practice them that’s even more good.
Which are the easy subjects in Sem V?
According to me it was Derivative Market & Portfolio management.
Any special way of writing the answers? Do you write answers in bullet points or in paragraphs?
I prefer writing in Bullet points as it is much better & your answers look much highlighted in it.
How do you crack case studies in theory and practical subjects?
For practical subjects ,i used to practise a lot & that’s what helped me.
Did you draw any diagram in any paper? Is it mandatory? Does it help to get more marks?
Yes. Its not mandatory but yes if you draw it then it will definitely help you to score more.
Any specific study pattern adopted i.e. timetable / how many hours per subject per day etc.?
Yes. I used to start with the tough subject first & then the easier one so that i can relax & don’t need to panic at the time of exams. “Always eat that big frog first” so that you can have a sigh of relief later on.
How do you fight against mood swings and distractions during exam preparation?
I used to take a break, listen to music & then go back to study.
If you are made the Vice Chancellor of Mumbai University, what changes would you like to initiate in Indian education system?
In that case I would make the on the job training programmes compulsory for all the graduation students since it will give a lot of practical knowledge & exposure and also improve their employability skills. This will also prepare them to face the challenges in the workplace.
Many students prepare sincerely but constantly live under fear that they are not from big college / not from English medium and eventually lose confidence. What message would you like to these students?
Dear Friends, It is not about your college nor your medium its all about you. What matters the most is your answers. Yes, if you are from the vernacular medium you may face some difficulties but that too can be overcome by constant practice. So just forget about other things, Believe in yourself & go ahead to achieve your goal.
Through this struggle and success, what have you learned? What is the wisdom of life and competition?
I have learned that the most important thing which brings you success is excellence. So always believe in excellence & your biggest competition in life is with yourself, so keep competing with yourself & try to beat your own last performance.
A very imp message to all upcoming BFM students, I have seen many of my own friends who wanted to take some other streams but ended up taking BFM & I know many of you may have also done the same but friends I would say that you are really very lucky to be in such a wonderful course which really has a great scope in the upcoming years & you are really gonna enjoy studying here and The most important thing is whatever you are going to study here in your books will really help you ahead in your life.
